Course Description

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the lean manufacturing philosophy, its principles and tools.   We help engineers to discover by doing, and this experience will allow them to experience, first-hand, the strength of the principles, the simplicity of the tools, and the dramatic of the results. Even more, after this course, most engineers will see manufacturing in a different way.

At The End Of The Course You Will Be Able To

  • Understand the concept of value from the lean manufacturing point of view.
  • Distinguish added value activities from Non- added value activities.
  • Identify the different types of waste recognized by the lean manufacturing philosophy.
  • Understand how to apply the lean manufacturing tools to avoid waste and improve the process performance.
  • Build and interpret value stream maps (VSM).  The actual VSM and the future VSM, and how they are used as a process improvement plan.
  • How to control de production and reduce waste using Kanban.
  • Understand the concepts related to visual factory, 5s and other tools related to process control.
